No, it's not a figure of speech. The little cocker spaniel Arthur was literally picked to be the best man at Elton John's wedding, so you can only imagine how much the "Tiny Dancer" singer loved his furry friend.
Sadly, Arthur passed away in 2019 after a lifetime of love and glam. To honor his beloved late pet, John dedicated the song "Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me" during a Las Vegas performance.
