Sometimes you watch actors in old films or hear a song you haven’t heard in a long time and think: I wonder if that person is still alive? Some actors keep performing until they pass away, but others decide after a few decades that they’ve had enough of life in the spotlight.

These stars are sometimes thought to be dead, just because they are enjoying a quieter life, whereas, after years of stardom, they are probably making themselves comfortable and relaxed to enjoy their years post-Hollywood. To clear it all up: these stars are all still alive, they are just enjoying the payoff of their retirement.

Loretta Lynn - 86

If you're a country music fan, then this golden lady needs no special introduction. Loretta Lynn is the most highly awarded female country singer/songwriter and has a glamorous career spanning over 60 years to show for it. This here, ladies and gents, is one self-made musical phenomenon, having single-handedly achieved the American dream of fame, money, and success. Still wondering how? Well, there are 45 million reasons we could give you, as many as the albums she's sold worldwide. Today at age 86, her voice still enchants her fans all over the globe, and if you've heard her sing, there's no surprise there...

Philip Michael Thomas - 70

Some people are blessed with genes that see them aging like fine wine. There's no better example than Philip Michael Thomas. Just take a look at these photos. It's almost as if a grey beard was photoshopped into a photo from his younger years.

The retired actor and musician gained widespread stardom after portraying detective Ricardo Tubbs in the '80s hit, Miami Vice. After being involved in a series of movies and television series over the decades, the now 70-year-old Thomas lives comfortably in retirement. He surely can't be bored as he is a father of eleven children.

Betty White - 97

Betty White may be one of the most vibrant character actresses around. White has been acting her whole life, starting out in 1939. She appeared in many TV series, such as The Golden Girls and Hot in Cleveland. White did a lot to improve women’s status in front and behind the camera, working as a writer and a director in Hollywood.

Her comedic talents have landed her part after part, and she still appears as a guest actor in many films and TV series nowadays. White certainly needs a few more years to enjoy her $75 million fortune she has earned during her long career. A true Golden Girl!

Terry Moore - 90

Terry Moore started out on the radio before moving on to the silver screen. Her tomboyish looks made her stand apart from other actresses and she starred in many films during the '50s. Sadly she faced a lot of controversy after a rocky relationship with Howard Hughes, which ended in a public court case.

It was solved with both sides settling, which meant a huge figure added to Moore's fortune. Yet, turning a profit isn't everything, as the actress sadly lost her husband in 2001. In 2018, she appeared in the film Saving Flora, and she's got more projects coming up in 2019 and 2020.

Mel Brooks - 93

Mel Brooks is one of those exceptional talents who can proudly say they are an EGOT: an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Award winners. The actor started off as a comedian, with his black observational humor capturing the hearts of many.

One of his most famous works is The Producers, an incredibly popular Tony-winning Broadway musical. With his $100 million fortune, the actor probably has a decent lifestyle in retirement after all that hard work! He can be proud of his work and his son has also become an actor and a writer. Talent clearly runs in the family.

Now that the new Joker movie is about to be released, one can’t help but remember Jack Nicholson’s epic take on the same character back in the '80s. With his extraordinary career, Jack’s performances are still remembered and emulated. However, it seems like he's been enjoying downtime for quite some time now since the last movie he acted in was way back in 2010. To be fair, he has already made a $400 million fortune, so he might as well never work again and still have enough money to get by. He also ventured in the gambling business yet he found many obstacles that, as of 2017, withhold the realization of his business plans.

Barbara Mandrell - 70

Barbara Mandrell is another popular country singer who managed to have a fruitful acting career as well. The 1970s and 1980s were a really good time for her career. Mandrell was the first-ever singer who bagged the Entertainer of the Year Award of the Country Music Association twice. She is also a two-time Female Vocalist of the Year award winner. Mandrell encountered a setback in her career when she was involved in a major car crash in 1984. She is already retired today and her old mansion in Tennessee is now a tourist attraction featuring a hotel, indoor shooting range, restaurant, and an outdoor music venue.

Richard Dreyfuss - 71

The 1970s through 1990s were the times when Richard Dreyfuss enjoyed a very busy acting career. Most people will remember him for the roles he had in Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Jaws, and Down and Out in Beverly Hills. For his performance in the movie The Goodbye Girl, he took home the Best Actor award at the Academy Awards back in 1977. He was also able to win a BAFTA and Golden Globe award for his performance. Retirement is not in Dreyfuss' plans yet as he is set to star in an upcoming movie titled The Last Laugh in 2018.

Maggie Smith – 84

With a career spanning almost seven decades, Maggie Smith has now become one of the most recognized English actresses out there. After all, she participated in some of the most iconic movies ever made. Some of them are The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie and A Room with a View. Maggie, who's been in all the Harry Potter films, was recently cast in 2019's Downton Abbey, a movie made as a followup to the series. The 84-year-old is on top of looking amazing and is still incredibly active. An upcoming project of hers is the 2020 film titled A Boy Called Christmas.

Ali MacGraw, 80 Years Old

Ali MacGraw has participated in many movies, but one film that will forever be associated with her is the 1970s' Love Story, where she co-starred with Ryan O'Neal.  Love Story is one of the greatest romantic films of all time.

MacGraw, who was one of People Magazine's 50 Most Beautiful People, always embraced her age and she is, with no doubt, an actress who's aging gracefully. Her career lasted from 1960 to 2009 and she has one child. Ali was married three times, and one of her spouses was the legendary Steve McQueen, to whom Ali was married from 1973 to 1978.

Nancy Sinatra - 79

American singer and actress Nancy Sinatra is the daughter of music icon Frank Sinatra and Nancy Barbato. Nancy became widely known in the '60s when she followed the footsteps of her famous father and started her own music career. She found great success with her international hit These Boots Are Made For Walkin'. Nancy also dabbled in acting and has participated in films like  The Oscar and  The Last of the Secret Agents. But probably her most famous acting stint was the one where she shared the screen with Elvis Presley in the 1968 film Speedway. Nancy is still active in the music scene and last released a digital-only album called Shifting Gears in 2013.

Connie Stevens – 81

The Hawaiian Eye TV series and songs like Sixteen Reasons have forever marked Connie Stevens’ career. She started as an extra in films, only to become the legend she is known to be today. Connie is now  81 years old, and for a person that has lived such a full life, she is still surprisingly active. In 2019, she acted in the film called By the Rivers of Babylon. Some of Connie’s other famous projects were Grease 2 and Starting from Scratch in the ‘80s.

Linda Evans - 77

The last time we saw Linda Evans performing was back in 1997 when she played in The Stepsister film. Since then, the only news we’ve gotten from her was her arrest for a DUI incident in 2014, when she was caught driving under the influence of her prescription pills.

We were glad not only to hear about her comeback with Swan Song in 2020 but also to see her looking as amazing as she does. Many years have gone by since she was playing in Dynasty, but it seems as though time has treated her well!

Danielle Spencer - 54 - Healthy Lifestyle, Approximately $125 Per Week

She’s long stepped away from the glaring spotlight, but the  54 years old Danielle Spencer still looks incredible. She’s mostly famous for playing the role of Dee Thomas in the What’s Happening TV series of the ‘70s. She’s since gotten married and divorced from Garry Fields and has been working as a veterinarian for at least 25 years now. Her secret for aging so well is probably following a healthy lifestyle. After all, she is a medical practitioner herself. In 2018 she had brain surgery for an aneurysm, but she's now on her road to recovery.

Robert Conrad - 83

He might have been retired since 2002, but Robert Conrad has left a mark in the entertainment industry. During his career that spanned over almost fifty years, Conrad managed to create a name for himself—as well as a quite respectable savings account—by starring in many popular films and TV series of the ‘50s and the ‘60s, hosting numerous shows on the radio, as well as recording pop and rock music albums. Sadly, his reputation took a dive after his legal misadventures following a car accident.
