Sometimes you watch actors in old films or hear a song you haven’t heard in a long time and think: I wonder if that person is still alive? Some actors keep performing until they pass away, but others decide after a few decades that they’ve had enough of life in the spotlight.

These stars are sometimes thought to be dead, just because they are enjoying a quieter life, whereas, after years of stardom, they are probably making themselves comfortable and relaxed to enjoy their years post-Hollywood. To clear it all up: these stars are all still alive, they are just enjoying the payoff of their retirement.

Terry Moore - 90

Terry Moore started out on the radio before moving on to the silver screen. Her tomboyish looks made her stand apart from other actresses and she starred in many films during the '50s. Sadly she faced a lot of controversy after a rocky relationship with Howard Hughes, which ended in a public court case.

It was solved with both sides settling, which meant a huge figure added to Moore's fortune. Yet, turning a profit isn't everything, as the actress sadly lost her husband in 2001. In 2018, she appeared in the film Saving Flora, and she's got more projects coming up in 2019 and 2020.

Mel Brooks - 93

Mel Brooks is one of those exceptional talents who can proudly say they are an EGOT: an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Award winners. The actor started off as a comedian, with his black observational humor capturing the hearts of many.

One of his most famous works is The Producers, an incredibly popular Tony-winning Broadway musical. With his $100 million fortune, the actor probably has a decent lifestyle in retirement after all that hard work! He can be proud of his work and his son has also become an actor and a writer. Talent clearly runs in the family.

Marla Gibbs - 88

Marla Gibbs is definitely a multitalented woman, who, during her five-decade career managed to become a successful actress, comedian, singer, writer, and producer. Gibbs is known for her role as Florence Johnston in The Jeffersons, for which she also received five nominations for Emmys. In 1981, she also starred in the show's spin-off Checking In and the NBC sitcom, 227.

Gibbs was also the co-producer of the latter series while at the same time she also played the lead role and sang the theme song! Gibbs has won a total of seven NAACP Image Awards. Later in her career, Gibbs played supporting roles in films such as The Meteor Man, Lost & Found, The Visit, The Brothers, Madea's Witness Protection, Grantham & Rose, and Lemon (2017). And after all that, she still shows no desire for retirement!

Sean Connery - 89

Today, Sir Thomas Sean Connery may be a far cry from his days portraying a suave, womanizing spy, but the highly decorated retired actor still retains a semblance of his past glory. Having won a multitude of awards (including an Academy Award), it's certain that his retirement includes polishing his award case contents to a full shine.

Connery was the original James Bond, a role he later abandoned to avoid getting typecast. His most famous blunder was turning down the role of Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, instead opting to star in the box office flop, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

Dick Van Dyke - 93

Who doesn’t remember the lovable Dick Van Dyke in the famous Mary Poppins film? The multi-talented performer ruled musical films in his time with appearances in Bye Bye Birdie and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. He is widely recognized by Brits for doing the worst English accent around, but they do love him for it too!

Though he danced and sung his way to become an official Disney Legend, he did face some dangers too. At 87, he was saved from his car, which moments later was engulfed in flames. We hope he did some serious thinking with regard to accidents and bought a safer vehicle. He can definitely afford it with a $30 million fortune!

Bob Barker - 95

Bob Barker is a very popular television personality. Barker began his career in radio, where he showed his skills in talking to people and entertaining everyone with his charm. He started hosting game shows in 1956, with Truth or Consequences. His skills as a host also came in handy for beauty pageants, such as Miss USA and Miss Universe.

He is most famous for hosting The Price Is Right. The host has been happily married to his high school sweetheart for years and years. He has been struggling with his health, though, recently, so hopefully, his $70 million fortune is more than enough to help him through tough times in his golden years.

Tippi Hedren - 89

Another one of Hitchcock’s discoveries is Tippi Hedren, who starred in The Birds. The actress appeared in many films during her time but also went through some hard times. She divorced multiple times with various of her marriages ending badly.

On top of that, an accident at work left her with a long and arduous lawsuit to attend to, which must have definitely complicated things. Meanwhile, she only wanted to raise enough funds for her activism. With her $20-million wealth, Hedren has supported some amazing causes, most notably for the preservation of wildlife. What a woman!

Vera Lynn - 101

Imagine being a soldier and enduring the harshest conditions life has to offer day in, day out. A visit from a beautiful singer probably sounds like a good cheer-me-up in that scenario! Vera Lynn did exactly that. She was famous for her songs during World War II and visited troops around the world.

Her gorgeous looks helped make her very popular with the hot-blooded soldiers, but her efforts to relieve the circumstances the armed forces were in didn’t go unnoticed. She has a net worth of $20 million, got awarded a British War Medal and is an official Dame of the United Kingdom.

Claudia Cardinale - 81

Italian actress Claudia Cardinale made a name for herself and quite notable earnings mainly thanks to her role in legendary director Sergio Leone’s film, Once Upon a Time in the West. She co-starred there alongside big names Charles Bronson, Jason Robards and Henry Fonda.

After a long career that filled his pockets tremendously, Richard released his last album in 1992 titled Little Richard Meets Masayoshi Takanaka.

Carol Burnett - 86

There's practically no field where Carol Burnett hasn't achieved success in the entertainment industry. That's why she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2005. Burnett originally became famous as a Broadway actress. She earned critical acclaim and her first big paychecks after her appearance on Once Upon A Mattress in 1959.

This must have been the saddest news ever for our beloved Paul.

Now that the new Joker movie is about to be released, one can’t help but remember Jack Nicholson’s epic take on the same character back in the '80s. With his extraordinary career, Jack’s performances are still remembered and emulated. However, it seems like he's been enjoying downtime for quite some time now since the last movie he acted in was way back in 2010. To be fair, he has already made a $400 million fortune, so he might as well never work again and still have enough money to get by.
