It is not a secret that pursuing any sport as a profession allows you to have the opportunity of having a huge yearly salary. Many star athletes have been living lavish lifestyles, thanks to their careers and it seems like they can really afford anything and everything they want. What some of you might not have known is that many of these athletes end up shifting to some normal jobs once their sports career is over. Let's take a look at some of the most famous athletes from different sports and see what kind of normal jobs that they've gotten themselves into.

Shawn Kemp – Power Forward, Seattle SuperSonics - Sports Bar Owner

Shawn Kemp, a former basketball player, was active in the NBA during the 1990s and 2000s. Kemp is best known for the career he had with the Seattle SuperSonics but he later also got to play for other teams like the Cleaveland Cavaliers and Portland Trail Blazers. After his retirement, Kemp was still able to grow his wealth because of his business ventures. He was able to put up his own sports bar called Oskar's Kitchen but the bar closed down back in 2015. These days, he is known for being one of the owners of Amber’s Kitchen which is located in Seattle.

 

Mark Blount - Center, Boston Celtics - Auntie Anne's Franchise Owner

The 7-foot-tall basketball player, Mark Blount, was a popular name during the 2000s. Blount is best known for playing as a center for the Boston Celtics. He also spent a couple of years playing for the Miami Heat and Minnesota Timberwolves. He officially retired back in 2010 and since then, he has been investing the money he has earned in his career. Blount is the owner of a number of franchises of Auntie Anne's Pretzels and the Cinnabon brands. Blount has had a multi-million dollar fortune for years now so getting into franchising has been easy for him.

Dan Dickau - Point Guard, Atlanta Hawks - Barbershop Owner & Sports Broadcaster

Dan Dickau can get his hair done for free anytime he wants because he owns his very own barbershop. Dickau is best known for playing for teams like the Atlanta Hawks, Boston Celtics, and Los Angeles Clippers. His barbershop is located in Washington and it is named The Barbers. Having this as a business is very helpful for him since he is raising six children with his wife. Aside from this, Dickau is also known for working at Westwood One, CBS Sports Network, and the Pac-12 Network as a sports broadcaster.

Bryant Reeves - Center, Vancouver Grizzlies - Cattle Farmer

From 1995 until 2001, Bryant Reeves was a member of the Vancouver Grizzlies and he was known for playing as a center. Prior to his NBA career, Reeves was a star player at Oklahoma State University. He is remembered for being the sixth-overall pick during the NBA Draft back in 1995.  Reeves is already 45 years old today and he has been retired since the early 2000s. These days, he gets his earnings from operating his very own cattle ranch. His Oklahoma ranch is a huge 300-acre estate and Reeves sure gets his hands dirty frequently.

Vin Baker - Center/Power Forward, Boston Celtics -  Starbucks Manager

When you are at Starbucks, you seeing a former NBA star working there is the last thing you'd expect. Well, some of you might have been surprised to see Vin Baker in recent years at a Starbucks outlet where you get your coffee fix in. Vin Baker spent two years playing for the Boston Celtics but he also enjoyed fruitful careers with the Milwaukee Bucks and the New York Knicks. Baker has been a manager of a Starbucks located in Connecticut's Old Saybrook area. He is also making money from being the Milwaukee Bucks' assistant coach. He apparently has been their assistant coach since January 2018.

Tim Duncan - Center/Power Forward, San Antonio Spurs - Car Customization Shop Owner

Tim Duncan spent almost two decades playing for the San Antonio Spurs. He was able to win a total of five NBA Championships in his career. He was also the NBA Finals MVP thrice in his career. Duncan has a huge fortune in the bank as of today but he still gets income from owning the BlackJack Speed Shop. This is basically his car customization shop in San Antonio, Texas which he has first opened in 2013. The Tim Duncan Foundation and the BlackJack Speed Shop actually teamed up back in 2017 and helped many Hurrican Harvey victims.

Adrian Dantley - Small Forward, Utah Jazz - Crossing Guard

Adrian Dantley was able to play for numerous teams during his NBA career but he succeeded the most when he was with the Utah Jazz.  If you have a kid who studies at the Montgomery County Public School in Maryland, then you might have seen Dantley in the campus. This is because Dantley has been working as a crossing guard for the school since 2013. This job of his is only part-time but he gets numerous health benefits from it. Aside from this, sources say Dantley gets to work as a referee around Washington D.C.

Ricardo Silva - Safety, Detroit Lions - Geometry Teacher

Ricardo Silva first showcased his impressive football skills when he was still at Hampton University. He was eventually drafted into the Detroit Lions in 2011 where he ended up becoming their safety. Silva was claimed by the Carolina Panthers in 2013 but he was waived after a couple of weeks. Silva's NFL career was short-lived and he stopped playing completely back in 2013. In 2014, he became a part of  Teach for America and was keen on pursuing a career as a teacher. These days, he is a faculty member of Washington D.C.'s Ballou High School. Sources say that he is a Geometry teacher.

Tony McGee - Tight End, Cincinnati Bengals - Freight Company CEO

Tony McGee entered the NFL scene in the 1990s and his career lasted until the early 2000s. He was known for playing as a tight end for teams like the Cincinnati Bengals, New York Giants, and Dallas Cowboys. By 2004, McGee was not active in the NFL anymore but he eventually became a very successful businessman. He has put up the HNM Global Logistics which is a successful freight company. McGee is currently the company's CEO and his yearly earnings allow him to live a comfortable lifestyle without any financial problems whatsoever.

Keith Fitzhugh - Safety, New York Jets  - Conductor

Keith Fitzhugh was sadly not as successful as the other names on this list. His greatest achievement was probably when he became an undrafted free agent for the New York Jets back in 2009. Because his career in the NFL did not really go as planned, Fitzhugh had to look for other ways he could make ends meet. For one thing, he had a disabled father so he really had to find another job that could get him a decent paycheck. Fitzhugh later found himself working at the Atlanta Norfolk Southern Railway as a conductor.

Eddie George - Running Back, Tennessee Titans - Theater Actor

Eddie George is well recognized for the career he had as a running back for the Tennesee Titans/Houston Oilers. George was a part of the Pro Bowl four times in his career. He is also remembered for being the Heisman Trophy winner when he was still at Ohio State University. These days, George has ventured into acting but not really in the mainstream scene. He is not a Hollywood star yet but he has already showcased his acting skills on Broadway. He is best known for starring in the production of Chicago as Billy Flynn, a role you can still watch George perform.

Ed Newman - Guard, Miami Dolphins - Judge

Former NFL player Ed Newman was a part of the Miami Dolphins from 1973 until 1984. Newman was an offensive guard and he was played for the Dolphins' winning team during Super Bowl VIII. During his last year of pro football, Newman started studying law at the University of Miami Law School. He graduated back in 1987 and he later spent seven years working as a litigation attorney. By 1995, Newman was able to start working as a County Court Judge. He is based in Miami's Richard E. Gerstein Criminal Justice Building.

Drew Bledsoe - Quarterback, New England Patriots - Winery Owner

Drew Bledsoe is best remembered for the eight-year career he had with the New England Patriots. Bledsoe won Super Bowl XXXVI with them but he also spent a couple of years with the Dallas Cowboys and Buffalo Bills. Bledsoe officially retired from playing in the NFL back in 2007. He later made a smart investment and opened his very own winery named Doubleback Winery. He co-owns the place with Chris Figgins who is a close friend of his. Bledsoe's wine has already made it into the Top 100 Wines list of the Wine Spectator. On top of all of this, he also supports philanthropic organizations in his free time.

Myron Rolle - Safety, Tennessee Titans - Neurosurgery Resident

Myron Rolle is best known for the short time he spent as the safety of the Tennessee Titans. Before Myron Rolle even made it into the NFL, he already had his eyes on a medical career. Rolle was able to go to Oxford University where he earned a Medical Anthropology degree. Rolle joined the Titans after graduating but he eventually decided to leave after a couple of years because he planned to go to medical school. In May 2017, Rolle finally graduated from the Florida State University College of Medicine. He is now getting his residency in neurosurgery at the Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital.

Spike Dudley - WWE - Financial Transition Specialist

Matthew Hyson is known by wrestling fans as Spike Dudley. Dudley competed in the WWF/WWE and his greatest achievements were winning the Cruiserweight Championship, Hardcore Championship, and European Championship. However, and quite interestingly, before becoming a wrestler, Hyson was making money through working as an assistant of a third-grade teacher. Hyson always found it easy to switch to a normal career despite the success he had in wrestling. Today, he works at Merrill Edge as a financial transition specialist. He is also a busy raising his two kids with wife Vikki.

David Eckstein - Infielder, St. Louis Cardinals - Entrepreneur

Baseball player David Eckstein is well known for the career he had with the St. Louis Cardinals. He was playing as an infielder in the team and aside from winning the World Series in 2006, he was also named the World Series Most Valuable Player of that year. Eckstein is officially retired as of January 2012 and these days, Eckstein spends a lot of time helping his wife Ashley with her business. They have a brand called Her Universe which basically sells clothes with a sci-fi theme. Eckstein didn't mind focusing on his wife's business since she had always supported him when he was still playing baseball.

Karl Malone - Power Forward, Utah Jazz - Businessman

A lot of you might remember basketball player Karl Malone for being a former member of the Utah Jazz. He was their power forward for about eight years and he was named the NBA Most Valuable Player twice in his career. Malone has invested his money in numerous business ventures over the years and this is why his fortune has been growing tremendously to this day. In Louisiana, he owns joints like Arby's, Eskimo's Ice Cream, and Teriyaki Grill. Malone also got to acquire two automobile dealerships and franchises of Burger King and Jiffy Lube. It's safe to say that Malone is a master in investing!

Jorge Posada - Catcher, New York Yankees - Writer

MLB star Jorge Posada had an amazing career with the New York Yankees. He won the World Series four times in his career and was a five-time All-Star. Posada went into retirement back in 2012 and since then, he has actually been doing well as a writer. He was able to release Play Ball! back in 2006 which was a children's book. He also has an autobiography called The Beauty of Love: A Memoir of Miracles, Hope, and Healing and this is where he got to talk about his life with a son who is battling craniosynostosis.

Tito Santana - WWF - Spanish Teacher & Basketball Coach

Tito Santana became a popular guy in the wrestling scene during the late 1970s. Santana often appeared in the  World Wrestling Federation and he was known for winning the Tag Team Championship and  Intercontinental Heavyweight Championship in the past. Some of you might not have known this but today, Santa only considers himself semi-retired so you can still see him in action at times. Santana makes a living these days by working at Eisenhower Middle School as a Spanish teacher. He is also the coach of the school's basketball team. His wife Leah also helps him with the bills because she has her own hair salon.

David Wells - Pitcher, Los Angeles Dodgers - Baseball Coach

David Wells started playing baseball professionally in the late 1980s and he was able to play for different kinds of teams through the years. Wells last played for the Los Angeles Dodgers but his World Series victories were with the Toronto Blue Jays and New York Yankees. After retiring, Wells first got into broadcasting and people usually saw him on MLB on TBS. There was also a time when he hosted  The Cheap Seats. Wells has been a baseball coach in Point Loma High School in more recent years. People really looked up to Wells that their home field's name was changed to the David Wells Field.

Kristi Yamaguchi - Ladies' Singles, United States - Author

Former figure skater Kristi Yamaguchi was winning left and right during the late 1980s and early 1990s. Yamaguchi is best remembered for winning the gold during the Olympic Games and World Championships back in 1992. After retiring, she pursued writing and she was able to release a best-selling children's book titled Dream Big, Little Pig. She became a popular TV personality back in 2008 when she emerged as the winner of  Dancing with the Stars' sixth season. Yamaguchi was also able to create Tsu.ya by Kristi Yamaguchi which was her own lifestyle brand. In 2018, Yamaguchi appeared as herself on Fresh Off the Boat.

Randy Johnson - Pitcher, Seattle Mariners - Photographer

Another baseball player who experienced playing for different teams in his career was pitcher Randy Johnson. Johnson became a part of five teams over the years but he spent the most time with the Seattle Mariners. In 2001, he won the World Series with the Arizona Diamondbacks. After Johnson retired from baseball, he had more time for himself and this was when he got to pursue a career as a professional photographer. Johnson is very talented and if you check out his website, you will see how good he is in taking breathtaking photos.

Jimmy Wang Yang - WCW & WWF - Businessman

Jimmy Wang Yang was a professional wrestler who experienced mainstream popularity during the late 1990s. Yang started out in World Championship Wrestling but he eventually made it into the WWF/WWE. Yang has stepped away from the wrestling scene in the 2010s but he is still earning enough funds to pay his bills, thanks to his business ventures. Yang operates a "party bus" business and he has a pest control company called Jimmy's Pest Control. Yang is also the man behind Pro Training, LLC. which is a professional wrestling school. All of Yang's businesses are based in Cincinnati.

Kerri Strug - Artistic Gymnastics, United States - Presidential Appointee

Kerri Strug was a very talented American gymnast who was a part of the 'Magnificent Seven.' They basically made history when they won the gold during the Atlanta Olympics back in 1996. Strug decided to retire after the Olympics and she later went to UCLA but she ended up finishing her studies in Sociology at Stanford. Strug's first job after graduating was a teaching job at Tom Matsumoto Elementary School. Strug later got to work at the Department of Treasury and the White House Office of Presidential Student Correspondence. However, she last worked as a presidential appointee at the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention.

Rick Steiner - WCW & WWF - Real Estate Broker

Robert Rechsteiner who is referred to as Rick Steiner in the wrestling community is truly making a huge fortune these days because he is now working in real estate. Steiner actually has his own agency called Rick Steiner and Associates. He is also a part of the Cherokee County School District's school board. Steiner was a big name in World Championship Wrestling back then and he and his brother Scott Steiner had an unbeatable tag team called The Steiner Brothers. They, in fact, won the World Tag Team Champion seven times together. They both later appeared in the WWF as well and became a two-time World Tag Team Champions.

Adrian Cardenas - Second Baseman, Chicago Cubs - Filmmaker & Writer

Most of you might remember baseball player Adrian Cárdenas for being a former member of the Chicago Cubs. Cárdenas also got to play for other teams like the Philadelphia Phillies and Oakland Athletics. He decided to retire when the 2012 season had ended because he didn't find baseball enjoyable anymore. Cárdenas went back to studying and was able to graduate from New York University in 2015. He even finished his master of fine arts degree as well. Cárdenas is now pursuing a filmmaking and wiring career full-time. He released a short film titled The Artisan in 2019. 

Christopher Nowinski - WWE - Author

Christopher Nowinski was best known for being the former WWE wrestler who was a Harvard University graduate. In his wrestling career, Nowinski takes pride for being the youngest wrestler who bagged the Hardcore Championship. Nowinski eventually left the wrestling scene because of his post-concussion syndrome but he later embarked on a writing career. Nowinski wrote a book called  Head Games: Football's Concussion Crisis which was later made into a documentary in 2012. Nowinski has also co-founded the  Concussion Legacy Foundation which aids in the research of the brain trauma experienced by athletes in their respective sports.

Tiki Barber - Running Back, New York Giants - Broadcaster & Radio Host

Former NFL running back Tiki Barber enjoyed a nine-year career with the New York Giants. Barber never experienced a Super Bowl win but he was a part of the Pro Bowl thrice in his career. Just like many professional athletes back then, Barber decided to pursue a broadcasting career after he entered retirement. Barber was first seen on NBC Sports and he eventually became a Today Show correspondent. These days, Barber is known for working at CBS Sports Radio as a radio host. Barber has also gotten into stage acting these days. He appeared on the Broadway production of Kinky Boots earlier in 2019.

Vinnie Johnson - Shooting Guard, Detroit Pistons - Piston Group Chairman

Vinnie Johnson can definitely look back at his NBA career and feel very accomplished. For one thing, he won the NBA Championship twice with the Detroit Pistons for ten years but he also spent some years with the San Antonio Spurs and Seattle SuperSonics. Johnson later became business-minded after he retired and he was able to put up the Piston Group. It's a successful manufacturing company that is based in Redford, Michigan. Johnson is the current chairman of the company and his net worth now is at a whopping $400 million.

Deuce McAllister - Running Back, New Orleans Saints - Analyst

Deuce McAllister was a part of the New Orleans Saints as a running back from 2001 until 2009. McAllister won the Super Bowl XLIV with the Saints and he was a part of two Pro Bowls in his career. One of the first investments that McAllister made after retiring was his Nissan dealership but it ended up bankrupt. Defaulting on payments led to Nissan suing McAllister and despite having an ordered settlement in 2012, McAllister got sued again in 2013 after failing to pay the settlement. Today, McAllister is on to new beginnings because he has been a Saints analyst for WVUE-TV since 2018.

Terrell Owens - Wide Receiver, San Francisco 49ers - Model & TV Personality

Terrell Owens aka T.O. is best remembered for his career with the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys. He was another NFL player who never experienced a Super Bowl win but he did play in six Pro Bowls over the years. Owens has been pursuing a career as a model since 2013 and it seems like he is still trying to make it big. He's also quite the TV personality because he has appeared in a number of reality shows over the years. In 2017, Owens was one of the competitors in the Dancing with the Stars' 25th season. He is currently on the cover of Madden NFL 19's Hall of Fame edition.

Bill Walton - Center, Portland Trail Blazers - Sportscaster

Bill Walton rose to fame in the NBA scene back in the 1970s. He experienced his first NBA Championship win with the Portland Trail Blazers back in 1977 and he was named the NBA Finals MVP that year. He won his second NBA Championship with the Boston Celtics in 1986. Walton later pursued a career as a color commentator after he retired but he has also established One More Saturday Night which is his own satellite radio show. In January 2019, Walton created quite the buzz when he mentioned that he appeared in 1984's Ghostbusters. People assumed he was lying but it was later confirmed that Walton was really an extra.

Derek Jeter - Shortstop, New York Yankees - Businessman

Derek Jeter is a popular MLB player who was with the New York Yankees for nineteen years. Jeter is a five-time World Series champion and a fourteen-time All-Star. Jeter was able to welcome a new wave of success after he retired from playing through a number of successful business ventures. His first venture was Jeter Publishing, which was a collaboration between him and Simon & Schuster. Jeter later launched a media platform called The Players Tribune which made it easier for athletes to connect to their fans. Since 2017, Jeter has been the CEO and non-controlling owner of the Miami Dolphins.

Magic Johnson - Point Guard, Los Angeles Lakers - Former President Of Basketball Operations

One of the most famous professional basketball players, Magic Johnson, announced his retirement several times before he really quit playing basketball. He played for the Los Angeles Lakers and after retiring from the sport, he became the president of basketball operations for the team. He assumed the position, replacing Jim Buss in 2017, but in April 2019, Johnson announced his decision to resign. In an interview, he said that he didn't like the atmosphere in the Lakers organization. He reportedly said he wanted to return to his role of NBA ambassador. The 59-year-old Johnson has a net worth of $600 million, so he doesn't even need this job.
